    I.                   MAKE SURE YOUR PTA IS IN GOOD STANDING TO PARTICIPATE:

    • MEMBERSHIP, BYLAWS, AUDIT AND INSURANCE AS WELL AS HAVING A BUDGET

    II.               LEARN ALL RULES AND BE AWARE OF DEADLINES

    • LOCAL UNITS HAVE UNTIL DECEMBER 1ST TO PROMOTE THEIR PROGRAM, COLLECT THEIR ARTWORK, HAVE THEM JUDGED AND ALL PAPERWORK COMPLETED PROPERLY BEFORE FORWARDING TO THE COUNCIL LEVEL OF JUDGING. NONCOUNCIL UNITS SUBMIT TO REGION REFLECTIONS CHAIR.
    • COUNCIL MUST SUBMIT THEIR WINNERS TO REGION BY JANUARY 5, 2018
    • REGION MUST SUBMIT THEIR WINNERS TO THE STATE REFLECTIONS CHAIR BY FEBRUARY 2, 2018

    • USE #ARTSEDWEEK TOOLSTO KICK-OFF YOUR PROGRAM IN A BIG WAY            
    • THIS YEAR’S NATIONAL ARTS IN EDUCATION WEEK (SEPT. 10-16).
    • PICK ONLY ONE NIGHT OR ONE NIGHT FOR EACH ART CATEGORY

    VI.              PAPERWORK

    1. OFFICIAL STUDENT ENTRY FORM
    • MUST BE FILLED OUT COMPLETELY THEN PLACED IN PROTECTIVE PLASTIC SLEEVE  AND TAPED TO BACK OF ARTWORK OR FOLDER OR BOX
    • SIMPLIFIED FOR CLEAR INFO TO RETURN TO ARTIST
    • INITIALS TO CONFIRM ARTIST PRODUCED ENTRY INDEPENDENTLY
    1. PARTICIPATION FORMS(ALWAYS FORWARD ORIGINAL + 2 COPIES TO NEXT LEVEL)

    LOCAL - COUNT ALL ENTRIES RECEIVED, JUDGE & FORWARD TOP 5 ENTRIES IN EACH AGE DIVISION/ART CATEGORY TO COUNCIL (OR REGION CHAIR IF NOT PART OF A COUNCIL)

    COUNCIL - LIST ALL UNITS PARTICIPATING, COUNT ALL ENTRIES RECEIVED, JUDGE & FORWARD TOP 3 IN EACH DIV/CAT. TO REGION

    REGION - LIST ALL NON-COUNCIL UNITS + ALL COUNCILS PARTICIPATING, COUNT ALL ENTRIES RECEIVED, JUDGE & FORWARD TOP 3 IN EACH DIV/CAT. TO STATE

    1. INVENTORY SHEETS(ALWAYS FORWARD ORIGINAL + 2 COPIES TO NEXT LEVEL)
    • NEED LIST OF WINNERS WITH PERTINENT INFORMATION REGARDING THEIR ARTWORK AND HOW TO CONTACT THEM FOR AWARD CEREMONY INVITATION AS WELL AS RETURNING OF THEIR WORK

    VII.         JUDGING

    1. FINDING JUDGES
    • LOOK INTO COMMUNITY LIBRARY , CHAMBER OF COMMERCE, UNIVERSITIES, RETIRED TEACHERS, ETC.
    • LOCAL – PARENTS AND/OR TEACHERS WITHIN THE SCHOOL ARE DISCOURAGED/NOT RECOMMENDED
    • COUNCILS CAN SWAP WITH OTHER SCHOOLS IN THEIR COUNCIL
    • THANK JUDGES WITH A SMALL TOKEN OF APPRECIATION
    1. JUDGING SCORE CARD
    • INTERPRETATION OF THEME - ARTIST'S STATEMENT IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT HERE! (20 PTS)
    • ARTISTIC MERIT/CREATIVITY - ORIGINALITY AND CREATIVE EXPRESSION (10 PTS)
    • MASTERY OF MEDIUM - LEVEL OF SKILL (10 PTS)

    VIII.       CELEBRATING

    • CHECK YOUR BUDGET, SET A DATE AND PLACE, PRINT CERTIFICATES/ORDER TROPHIES OR MEDALS, INVITE STUDENTS AND FAMILIES, INCLUDE SCHOOL STAFF THAT SUPPORT YOUR PROGRAM, PRESENT AWARDS AND SERVE LIGHT REFRESHMENTS THEN RETURN ARTWORK THAT DID NOT GO ON FOR FURTHER JUDGING

     

    IX.             THEME SEARCH

    • THESE NEED TO BE MAILED OUT TO STATE OFFICE BY DUE DATE...WHETHER YOU COLLECT THEM AND SEND AT ONCE OR INSTRUCT STUDENT TO MAIL DIRECTLY
    • PROMOTE THIS AND REMIND STUDENT CAN WIN $100 IF THEIR IDEA IS CHOSEN AT THE NATIONAL LEVEL!
